Leak Detection Using Tracer Gas
Gas Leak detection is the term used by plumbers to describe the detection of water leaks using a hydrogen & nitrogen gas mixture. This gas is pumped into the water system under pressure, and then escapes through any holes in the pipe. The gas is lighter than air and will rise to the surface, making it possible to detect the gas with a detection unit called a “sniffer”.
Gas Leak Detection Advantages:
This is n nontoxic, non-invasive method. Helps with harder to reach pipes in walls and underground and has a very good detection rate.
Gas Leak Detection Disadvantages:
May require service to be interrupted as the water will have to be shut down during detection.
